(Yarr matey, Sing to the tune of the old Sea Shanty “Drunken Sailor”)
What would you do with a drunken gamer?
What would you do with a drunken gamer?
What would you do with a drunken gamer early in the morning?
I would suggest you throw him a copy of Dishonored and watch the creative mayhem he unleashes.
I’m a big fan of the grungy sinister world of Dishonored. Is that your food? No it’s mine because I’m big, scary, wearing a mask and holding a menacing weapon. I like your art, I think I’ll tear it off the wall and throw you off the balcony for trying to stop me. Also shadow magic, enough said.
Genuinely Useful Abilities – Each tool this game gives you is useful in a variety of settings. This games abilities and items are so convenient and in synergy with each other it feels like you have a world of choices at your snarky murder prone finger tips. Exploding rat eviscerations sound like a sick joke but are a real and very useful hat trick.
Squeeky, Mick, Eekers and Bob (The Real Rat Pack)
Environmental Flourishing – This game really made you feel like a part of the world. Your heroic deeds and infamous acts of debauchery actually make the world feel a little brighter or darker. Murder a few too many people and there just might be an influx of plagued rats spewing from the sewers to mildly inconvenience you (If having your face ripped off by vicious rats is considered a mild inconvenience).
Quality Use of Sound – This game makes use of a rare art, using sound as more than just background music. This game pairs up appropriate moments with emotionally invoking sounds. These sounds include that of a beating heart when stressed, the hair on end twang of an mistuned piano to let you know that you have alerted the locals or the lurching cracking noise as a swarm of rodents tears through bone and flesh. The well-crafted sound effects in this game can have intense moments where you’ll experience pins and needles or goosebumps .
Dinner will be served shortly.
Opportunity for Creative Killing – On top of abilities and items that make assassination an art, the environmental options this game gives you adds an even thicker device for creativity. If you think throwing someone out of the window or stuffing an unconscious body into a roaring fireplace is clever then you aren’t trying hard enough. The possibilities are numerous and a whole community has formed on YouTube that test their skills and creativity and broadcasts the cruel-hearted results for your twisted amusement.
Disproportionate Difficulty – If there is a time for diplomacy and a time for violence then why is it always easier to hit first and talk later? I’m not saying it’s impossible to stealth your way through levels and beat this game without a kill total that would make Jack the Ripper blush but it’s far easier to blunt object the bad guys than spend ten minutes as an Olympic gymnast trying to avoid them just to be noticed and attacked ten seconds later. Some may argue that the difficulty disparity adds more challenge to the game but isn’t that what the mode selection is for? If I wanted impossible I’d be playing on extreme mode.
You could call me a collector of sorts…
Fun and Unusual Concepts – Rats, plague, flooding, steampunk this game combines a lot of common elements in a new and inspiring way. The world you mar with your enemies blood is a world worth investigating. There is enough lore to keep you submerged into the depths of events and genuinely make you feel like you are a part of things.
DLC – The Downloadable content for this game explores an interesting plotline and gives a behind the scenes look at the main story. I don’t normally bother buying DLC but the price was right and the content was worthy of my dollar. You can probably finish all of the DLC in an afternoon or two so I would suggest waiting for it to go on sale (as it often does).
