Tribal Wars 2 – Game Review
Tribal Wars 2 is an MMO village sim real time strategy game developed by InnoGames. TW2 makes use of medieval themes to allow you to engage in village building and PVP combat. Your goal is to expand your empire, wage war and lay claim to enemy villages.
Tribes – To compete in this game you need to join a tribe for protection. This isn’t a bad thing unless you are terribly anti-social or an egomaniac. Joining a strong tribe can provide you with a sense of camaraderie, allies to help you defend and coordinate attacks with, and allow you a large force of mentors to guide you as your learn the game. When you join the game make sure to look around your position for strong players and see what tribe they are in. You’ll want a tribe that is nearby otherwise they will not be able to help you.
Multi-platform – This game can be played in the comfort of your home on your PC or when you are on the go using your phone. Due to the nature of the games combat system it is quite handy being able to log in from a phone to check on your villages and organize your defenses on the fly.
Pay–to-win – To date this is the worst instance of pay-to-win I have ever witnessed. Many strategic paths in this game require that you invest real currency in consumable in-game features. You can instantly recruit troops for resupplying a defensive or offensive army and perhaps worst of all is that you can instantly build any level of any building with the right amount of coin.
Checks & Balances – Unfortunately this game doesn’t have a tremendous system for balancing out the staggering differences between player powers. Someone who owns 10 villages has little hope to compete against someone who has amassed 100 villages. There is a “morale” feature that is supposed to help protect new players but a swarm of troops that can be resupplied by exponentially more villages will triumph in almost all cases.
Social – This game is a tremendous amount of fun if you’re looking to join an online community. It can be difficult and very frustrating but a healthy attitude and some good friends can make even a colossal defeat enjoyable.
